We had an awesome first Shabbos on GIVE USA!  We were privileged to have many special guests in honor of our first Shabbos, cosponsored by Touro College including: Dr. David and Mrs. Vivian Luchins, Rabbi and Rebbitzen Dovid Goldwasser, and Mr. Eli and Mrs. Suri Klugman. Our guests made themselves available to us for most of Shabbos, and our girls utilized that opportunity to the fullest, through listening attentively to them, eating meals with them, and conversing with them. On Friday night we had the distinct honor of hearing from Rabbi Goldwasser, an illustrious speaker and Faculty Member at Lander College for Women, whose stories and powerful words inspired our girls.  Mrs. Klugman , the Admissions Associate for Lander College for Women, made the girls feel comfortable with her warmth and easy going manner and was a pleasure to have throughout Shabbos; sharing her personal experiences, thoughts, and having one on one conversations with the girls.  On Shabbos morning we had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Luchins, the founding dean of the Lander College for Women, who captivated the girls with his many stories and powerful message. During Menucha time, many of the girls participated in various exciting games and meaningful conversations, which allowed them to continue getting to know each other.  We also began our Beit Medrash program in which the girls were able to learn a book of choice on various Jewish topics with each other and an adviser.  Mrs. Luchins, Vice Chair of the Orthodox Union’s Youth Commission, relayed a powerful message about the strength of Jewish women to the girls.  Shabbos was escorted out with meaningful stories from Rabbi Goldwasser, Mrs. Klugman and came to a close through beautiful singing.   It was definitely a great first Shabbos and start to our summer adventure!

We are winding down after a long day of traveling, meeting new friends, and having fun. We started the day by taking buses from Long Island, JFK airport, and Teaneck. After eating a fantastic lunch and dinner, and playing a fun icebreaker, we kicked off the summer with an awesome night of fun. The night activity was called “Minute to Win It”, and we had two volunteers at a time playing crazy games for a minute each. The girls were bobbing for apples, knocking over soda cans with colorful tights, racing with Vaseline and cotton balls, finding the Splenda packets in a bowl of cereal using their mouths, and more! The night ended with a Vaseline fight leaving the madrichot with very silky hair, to say the least.

As we are gearing up for the Best. Summer Ever, we wanted to let you know about an exciting initiative we have for all of our girls before we even start the program!

On GIVE USA, we will have the fantastic opportunity to be trained as “Mitzvah Clowns” by a great organization called Areyvut. In order for each camper to have her own clown kit and costume, we are encouraging our girls to raise money within the next couple of weeks by creating their own branch campaigns through a website called rootfunding.com. The money will go towards our clown kits and costumes, and other Areyvut initiatives.
