Meet Your Logistics Coordinators & GIVE WEST Couple: Talia and Yaakov Borenstein

giveusa July 5, 2015
Talia Lautman Borenstein is originally from Cleveland, OH. She went to Stern College for women where she majored in Sociology and minored in Education. After graduating, Talia took a year off as a Yeshiva University Presidential Fellow in the Department of Institutional Advancement. She is currently halfway done with her master’s in Community Organizing, Policy, and Development at the Silberman School of Social Work. Talia has been very involved in NCSY and Jewish overnight camping over the years. In high school, she was Cleveland NCSY Chapter President and served as the V.P. of Education on the Central East NCSY Regional Board. She attended three NCSY summer programs while in high school: SEG, Michlelet, and JOLT. While in Stern, she was an advisor in Central East NCSY for two years. Throughout the past six summers, Talia has worked in Camp Stone as counselor, Sganit Rosh Machal (Assistant Head of the Teen Division), Rosh Aidah (Division Head), Sganit Rosh Moshava (Assistant Head Counselor), and last summer as the Rosh Moshava (head of the entire camp). Tali cannot wait to return to NCSY with her husband this summer as the “Ima and Abba” and logistics coordinators to ensure every girl feels a part of a family and is well taken care of!
Yaakov Borenstein is originally from West Hempstead, New York. This will be his fourth summer working on NCSY Summer . . . and his first all-girls program! Back in high school, Yaakov served on NCSY Long Island Board and Regional Board and was a participant on NCSY Summer programs Euro ICE and Kollel. After spending a year in Israel at Torat Shraga after high school, Yaakov studied Psychology at Queens College while serving as an advisor for Long Island NCSY. He assisted in running NCSY Latte and Learning sessions, JSU clubs, Shabbatonim, and more! Yaakov took a year off after called to intern with a psychologist in a hospital and has just completed his master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University. In the fall, he will be starting a doctoral program for Counseling Psychology at Columbia University and looks forward to the opportunities it will create!
Fun Fact: All four of Yaakov’s sisters, his wife, and he himself will be on different NCSY Summer programs this summer. GIVE, ICE Israel, GIVE West, and JOLT will all have one (if not two!) members of my family. THE BORENSTEINS LOVE NCSY! (And they can’t wait to meet you).
